SunCatcher FAQ
SunCatcher Solar Panel Canopies

1. Why Should You Buy SunCatcher Solar Panel Canopies For Your Electric Golf Car Fleet?

a. Reduce Cost of Charging Batteries By at least 35%
A 120-volt battery charger is rated to draw 10 amps of power. The power you use in charging the batteries is measured in kilowatt-hours. The formula is volts times amps equals watts

120v * 10 amps = 1200 watts: 1200 watts = 1.2 kilowatts

When the charger is first plugged in, it draws close to 10 full amps for a few minutes and then drops off to 5 or 6 amps for the majority of the charging time. The recommended time to achieve full charge is five hours. The last couple hours the charger draws slightly over 1 amp. Studies over a thirty-day period have determined the average amount of power consumed is consistent with the following formula. 120 volts * 4 amps * 5 hrs = 2400 watt hours

The solar panel charging system delivers 2.4 amps at 36 volts = 90 watt hours

Ensuring the golf car is outside for 10 hours each day produces the following results.

amps * 36 volts * 10 hours = 864 watts 864 watts divided by 2400 watts = 36% savings

b. Double the Battery Life

The number of times a battery can be cycled before it is worn out increases significantly as the percentage depth of discharge declines. A battery, which is required to deliver 50% of its power, will provide 30% to 50% more cycles than when it is drained to 80% depth of discharge. In other words the battery will last approximately twice as long if it is continually being charged. There is sulfur in the acid that has a tendency to settle, and become a solid, as the battery is discharged. To keep the sulfur mixed with acid the battery has to be recharged. A battery that is being charged continuously has a boiling effect to keep the sulfur from separating from the acid and becoming a solid. This produces a longer battery life.

c. Eliminate Stranded Golfers Due To Dead Batteries

All golf courses have had to deal with golfers stranded on the course due to dead batteries. These stranded golfers typically end up in the Proshop after the round demanding you compensate them in some manner. In an attempt to retain the future business of the golfer you offer them a free golf car or round on their next visit. With SunCatcher on your electric golf cars, this problem is eliminated.

d. Reduce Global Warming Greenhouse Gases From Entering the Atmosphere
